It didn’t look to great after the 1st period tonight in Pittsburgh. The Jackets trailed 3-1 after 20 minutes and was out shot 15-4. The Jackets came ready to play in the 2nd where Matt Calvert scored Columbus’ second short handed goal of the series and his his first goal of two tonight. The Jackets really stepped up their defense and Bob also did. In the 3rd period, Jack Johnson scored a power play goal and tied this game up at 3. After allowing 3 goals in the first period, Sergei Bobrovsky shut out the Pens for over 60 minutes to earn his first playoff win.
In overtime, the Jackets came out and held the Penguins even though they were out shot 12-10. The 2nd overtime started with a power play for the Pens, but the Blue Jackets killed it and just 1 minute and 10 seconds into the 2nd overtime Matt Calvert’s wrist shot sent the Blue Jackets home with their first Stanley Cup Playoff win in franchise history.
Tonight was a must win, and the Jackets rose to the occasion and are going back to Columbus tied with the Penguins at one a piece. This is a winnable series for Columbus, they are the underdogs and all the pressure is riding on the No. 1 seed Penguins.
