Jackets Deal Dubois to Jets in Big Trade for Laine

We all knew a trade was on the horizon and this morning it became official. Disgruntled center Pierre Luc Dubois has been traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets along with the Jackets’ 2022 third-round pick to the Winnipeg Jets for all-star right wing Patrick Laine. In addition, the Jackets also gets another right-wing in Jack Roslovic, who, ironically enough, is a native of Columbus and made his NHL debut against Columbus.

Dubois’ unhappiness being in Columbus has been well documented for the past few weeks, though exactly why he was unhappy is unknown. Many point the finger at a confrontational relationship with head coach John Tortorella while others say he was dissatisfied with the direction of the team. Either way, he got his wish and now it’s time for the capable center to put his money where his mouth is north of the border.

Patrick Laine racked up two goals and an assist in the Jets’ opener this season before missing a trio of games with an undisclosed upper-body injury. Once he’s healthy, his 6’5”, 206-lb. frame will be a welcomed addition to a team that is in desperate need of size and his power-play prowess. Laine is currently listed as day-to-day.

Jack Roslovic joins his new team immediately signing a two-year, $3.8 million deal where he will likely become a third-line winger, depending on how Torts wants to shuffle the lineup. Roslovic tallied 12 goals and 17 assists in the regular season during the 2019-20 campaign while Laine netted 28 goals with 35 assists in the same season.
