With the clock ticking down to the beginning of training camp, the Cleveland Browns came to terms with Jabrill Peppers on Sunday. Peppers, the 25th pick in April’s NFL draft, was the last of Cleveland’s ten selections to sign. Ultimately, we can assume that he got the guaranteed money he wanted with his $10.3 million four-year-deal which includes a $5.6 million signing bonus.
Having everyone ready to participate in camp is important, but having Peppers there was almost a necessity. Peppers will likely play much more than safety for the Browns. Gregg Williams will use the rookie as a hybrid player in his defense. He’ll play some traditional strong safety, but will also move all over the field as a defensive back and a linebacker. Peppers needs time to learn the complexities of his role.
Jabrill Peppers will also see some time on the offensive side of the ball. We may see him line up as a running back in addition to playing some receiver. Add in his duties as a kick returner and you can appreciate the learning curve that he faces and the importance of practicing with his teammates.
We officially welcome Jabrill Peppers to Cleveland. We can’t wait to see all the ways Hue Jackson and Gregg Williams can dream up to use your talents!
