Not everyone is a Cleveland Cavaliers expert, so to speak. That’s for sure. Sure, the average fan knows the likes of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and currently a guy like Kevin Love. Well, this trade just occurred and it brings a new face to the squad.
Via Marc Stein: “The Cavaliers make it official and announce the acquisition of Lauri Markkanen in a sign-and-trade that sends Larry Nance Jr. to Portland and a 2023 second-rounder to Chicago, with the Bulls also receiving Derrick Jones Jr. and Portland’s lottery-protected 2022 first-rounder.”
Here’s the issue.
Let’s be honest and agree that Lauri is a girl’s name. I don’t think I have ever met a male named Lauri.
Thus, there can be some confusion in the future.
Basketball players are sometimes referred to by their first name. LeBron, Kyrie etc. Should the newest Cavalier be referred to by the first name of Lauri, it really could cause some issues with the phrasing used in basketball. To stay appropriate, let’s use an example with LeBron’s name.
“LeBron was on the ball tonight.”
“Kyrie dropped the ball.”
Get the point?
It’ll be interesting to see if there will ever be any miscommunication throughout the league’s fanbase. It’ll be especially relevant if one has a close friend with the name Lauri.
Cavs fans, no matter what, use Lauri Markkanen’s full name or simply the last name.
