Is “The Joker” Nikola Jokić Bad For The League?

Well, he’s one of if not the best player in the NBA. No, For once I am not talking about Lebron James (I will, though) and that is a shocker. It’s the most recent NBA Champion in C Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets.

Honestly, the dude is really boring.

Simply put, he’s not a Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaq, Kareem, aforementioned LeBron James or other superstars that make waves in not just their play but also comments and actions throughout their respective NBA journeys.

After winning the title, Jokić was quoted as saying, “The job is done, we can go home now.”

What?

Compare that to LeBron (haha told you so) when he said, “CLEEEEEEVELAND – THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!!!”

Or his lengthy Game 7 diatribe that is still amazing and inspirational to this date.

“I set out a goal two years, when I came back, to bring a championship to this city. I gave everything that I had. I poured my heart, my blood, my sweat, and my tears to this game and… against all odds. Against all odds. I don’t know why we wanna take the hardest road. I don’t know why the man above gave me the hardest road but… it’s nothing that the man above don’t put you in situations that you can’t handle. And I just kept that same positive attitude… Like instead of saying ‘why me?’ I was saying ‘This is what he wants me to do.”

My point? Jokić is not exciting for fans. He seemed barely interested in the fact that he just won AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP! That’s like one of the biggest accomplishments in the world and he’s like… yeah I want to go ride my horses back home and chill.

An amazing player but is not someone I’ll turn on my television and see some type of crazy headline compared to the rest of the superstars. Thus, fans may not be racing to flip on the Denver Nuggets games next year even though they are the reigning champions of the league.

Certainly, commissioner Silver wishes this guy had a little more swagger, so to speak.

Again, this is not to disrespect his ability.

Jokić finished the 2023 NBA Finals averaging 30.2 points, 14 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.4 steals. He also shot 58.3 percent from the field, 42.1 percent from the three-point line and 83.8 percent from the free throw line. – Via NBA.com

Those numbers are absolutely insane. Will the jersey sales match those of the LeBron’s in this league despite the numbers and such? It’s not likely to happen.

Congratulations to the Denver Nuggets on winning the NBA Finals. Let’s hope Jokic got his Melatonin gummies to fall asleep peacefully that evening after winning the finals.
