Is Shane Bieber The Real Deal?
Though it has been only four starts, the Indians’ new starting pitcher, Shane Bieber, looks like he might become something special in Cleveland. Posting a career-high nine strikeouts against the Tigers on June 22, Bieber seemed to have no problems getting acclimated to the big leagues. Starting his career off on a 3-0 start, he has potential to be the real deal.
Since he is a new face in the dugout, we’d like to provide some background information about the new righty. Bieber was drafted by the Tribe in the 4th round of the 2016 MLB Draft from UC Santa Barbara. Born in 1995, the ace is just 23 years old, leaving plenty of time to improve his game even more to hopefully solidify himself as one of the elite pitchers in the league.
It is absolutely incredible at the performance level of Cleveland’s starting pitchers. Even without aces Danny Salazar and Carlos Carrasco, I believe they have the best staff in all of baseball. The new ace has stepped up after the injury to Carrasco. Taking full advantage of his opportunity, Bieber has yet to add a digit to the loss column. Through four games, the stud has pitched a solid 24.1 innings. Within his four starts, Bieber has totaled 27 strikeouts, has allowed six earned runs on 28 hits, leading to an impressive 2.22 ERA.
Bieber finds himself in an amazing situation, considering he can learn and enhance his game by being around Corey Kluber, Cookie, Trevor Bauer and Mike Clevinger. After a strong start, I believe this kid has all of the qualities to fill that five spot in the Indians’ rotation, permanently. As the Indians keep up the winning, I’m excited to see what Bieber can do! As for now….ROLL TRIBE!
