Indians Sign Second Baseman Cesar Hernandez to a One-Year Deal
The Cleveland Indians have signed former Phillies second baseman (switch-hitter, fields right-handed) Cesar Hernandez to a one-year contract worth $6.25 million dollars. Hernandez, entering his eighth season, hit .279 with 14 home runs, 74 runs batted in, 45 walks and nine stolen bases.
Hernandez played all but one game last season, so it shows true durability.
What else?
Clearly, the Indians are moving on from free-agent second baseman Jason Kipnis. Last season, the 33-year-old hit .245 with 14 home runs, 45 runs batted in, 40 walks and seven stolen bases. The key with Kipnis is the Indians paid $15 million last year to “Dirtbag.” That’s off the books now.
Hernandez had nine errors compared to Kipnis’ four but take into account games played.
The Tribe making this signing is the best thing from Philly since Rocky Balboa knocked out Apollo Creed and yes, I am taking every opportunity to mention THE Italian Stallion. Let me make this clear that I am also a huge Apollo Creed fan, too.
Let’s hope Hernandez can pack a punch (haha) as hard as these two aforementioned giants!
