Indians Acquire Relief Pitcher, James Hoyt

The Indians received some extra bullpen help yesterday, acquiring right-handed reliever James Hoyt from the Houston Astros for a minor league prospect.

Hoyt, a 31-year-old veteran who has appeared in 66 games with a 4.40 ERA over three seasons for the Astros, will report directly to Triple-A Columbus but could certainly see time in the majors this year given the Indians’ bullpen struggles.

Going into today’s game, they rank 28th in ERA, 23rd in saves and look like a shadow of the dominant committee that has willed the Tribe to two straight division titles, which makes it very important that they explore all avenues to return to that level.
