“I Liked Kevin Stefanski”
Yeah, it’s true.
It’s not that Kevin Stefanski was an unlikable guy; he was actually very cool as a coach and amongst reporters and all of that good stuff that comes with the job itself.
However, it was time.
It was time for the Browns to move on and start fresh with a new head coach after six seasons with Stefanski in charge.
“Cleveland Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski finished his tenure with a 45-56 regular season record and a 1-2 postseason record in six seasons, earning two NFL Coach of the Year awards (2020, 2023), but was fired on January 5, 2026, after the team finished the 2025 season 5-12. He led the franchise to two playoff appearances and their first playoff win in decades in 2020.”
I have mixed feelings.
In the sense that most would agree that it was not necessarily 100% Stefanski’s fault that the Browns were unable to find success in specifically these past two seasons of struggle. Citing specifically the offensive side of the ball, where the roster really struggled to have any type of success.
Like, DE Myles Garrett can’t play every position all of the time…right?
So yeah, what’s different about this firing compared to a lot of others in coaching is the fact that many will say they appreciated a lot of what Stafanski did and that, moreover, they “liked” him as a person and all that came with him, specifically in the first few years.
Honestly, I think Spefanski himself probably wanted “out” in some capacity himself, as he probably will find another job with another franchise in the coming year(s). Trufully, I wouldn’t mind leaving Cleveland after these past couple of disastrous years and starting somewhere fresh. Unfortunately, being a Browns fan doesn’t give you that option…
It’ll be interesting to see who the Browns end up choosing as a new head coach to once again start fresh in Cleveland. Many names have been listed from DC Jim Schwartz (already with the Browns) to Jesse Minter, Matt Burke, Jeff Hafley and Klint Kubiak. My guess is the Browns certainly already had a few candidates in mind before the official firing occurred.
So, yeah. “I liked Kevin Stefanski.” But, it was time and I think everyone knew it…
However, what I once again point out is just how bad, specifically the offensive players are and how much improvement is needed via the draft and free agency coming up in order to have any type of successful future. That will be assessed ASAP.
