The Cavs and Celtics play Game 5 tonight and I give an analysis on that in the other article I wrote today.
However, here’s something else to think about.
As everyone by now knows, the Houston Rockets evened the series against the Golden State Warriors with a comeback win, 95-92, on the road. This gives them a chance to win the series and go to the finals now that they have the home court advantage again.
Almost everyone thinks that another Cavs/Warriors Finals will result in Golden State taking the series in four or five games. Additionally, almost everyone feels the Cavs have a better chance to win against Houston over Golden State.
LeBron and the rest of the Cavs are human and are paying attention to the Western Conference Finals just like all of us fans are. I don’t think any of them, especially LeBron, want to get spanked by the Warriors again. I believe that the Rockets tying the series up at two games apiece just gives the Cavs added motivation to take care of business tonight in Boston and win the series against the Celtics.
What if Houston wins the series? That cracks open the door for another championship in Cleveland, even if it’s just by a little bit. I would still say Houston, with the home court advantage, would certainly still be the favorite, but it gives the Cavs a fighting chance unlike another series against the Warriors.
Any added incentive is good for this Cleveland team that can fall flat at times.
