Cleveland Guardians ace Shane Bieber will undergo Tommy John surgery. He will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. This is a devastating blow to the Guardians team. Bieber had two great starts this season. He was rolling and we were seeing his best stuff. You gotta feel for the man and the player. How will Cleveland respond?

Let’s be honest here. The season is not over for the Guardians. This team is still good enough to win the AL Central. Besides, the division is weak. The only team I see giving the Guardians a challenge for the division is the Minnesota Twins.

How will first-year manager Stephen Vogt handle this situation of losing his No. 1 pitcher? A great leader will galvanize the troops and will encourage other players to step up. In addition, they’re going to need someone from Triple-A to bring some spark or production will Bieber recovers. Every manager will go through trials and tribulations. Every manager will be tested at some point to see whether they can handle the pressure or buckle down under the pressure. Stephen Vogt must be fearless and not try to do too much. Bring as much positivity and encouragement to the clubhouse for the rest of the season on a consistent basis. Learn from the great Terry Francona.

Shane Bieber is 28 years old. He’s in the prime of his career. He’s entering free agency after this season. For him to get injured is all bad timing and can cost him a lot of money. We might or might not see Shane Bieber in a Cleveland uniform next season. Bieber is a 2020 Cy Young Award winner. In 843 career innings, he has posted a 3.22 ERA and 62-32 record. He’s been one of the best pitchers in the league for the last six seasons.
