After losing both doubleheader games to the New York Yankees on Saturday, the Cleveland Guardians rallied on Sunday to avoid a sweep. The Yankees have been dominant this season when they lead by four runs or more. They’re 10-0 in that scenario, but the Guardians broke the streak. It is one of the most impressive wins of the season for the Guardians so far. Second baseman Andres Gimenez won the game with a sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Aaron Judge got things started with a three-run home run to put the Yankees on the board 3-0 in the top of the third inning. The Guardians responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Jose Ramirez hit a line drive two-run home run to left field. The Guardians had a 5-4 lead entering the ninth inning and ready to put the Yankees away. Anthony Volpe had other thoughts. He tied the game with a double to deep center field.

In the top of the 10th inning, Anthony Rizzo hit a 2-run single to bring Juan Soto and Aaron Judge home. However, the Guardians have shown that they will never quit. The team is resilient and doesn’t buckle down under pressure. Josh Naylor and Will Brennan came through for the Guardians by driving in runs to tie the game. Andres Gimenez sent the Guardians and the fans home with a smile on their face because he lifted the team to victory.

Guardians won the game 8-7. They’ve improved to 11-5 in the season, currently sitting in first place in the AL Central. Guardjsns are currently in a 4-game road series against the Boston Red Sox.
