Guardians Call Up Catcher Bo Naylor as 27th Man

The MLB has this rule where teams can call up a 27th man on the roster for times that a double-header is scheduled. Well, the Guardians face the New York Mets in one today after yesterday’s game was postponed.

The team decided to call up catching prospect Bo Naylor as the additional player.

In 41 games played this year (AAA Columbus Clippers), Naylor has a .257 average (148 at-bats), nine home runs and 32 runs batted in. Solid numbers…

Now, despite the fact that it is only for the single two games, most Guardians fans are singing their praises to the lord because our current catchers are absolutely terrible.

Yes, starter Mike Zunino and backup Cam Gallagher with averages of .165 and .106. respectively have been horrible this year.

Combine Zunino/Gallagher (132 at-bats) and they have hit two homers and 11 runs batted in.

Basically, they suck.

This is why a simple move such as calling up a prospect with some promise is exciting. We’ll see what Naylor does today in the two games and if it warrants a future full-time promotion to the bigs at some point.

One final note: Naylor did play in the bigs back in 2022 for five games, eight at-bats and five strikeouts.

Let’s see Naylor go 8/8 with eight homers just to make everything interesting!!!
