Let’s look at the 2010 draft. This draft helped the Browns acquire some good pieces. We had the 7th overall pick in the draft. We used that pick on Florida cornerback Joe Haden. Haden is… pretty good. Let’s look at all 8 picks.
1st Round (7th overall): Joe Haden, CB, Florida
We all know about Joe. Joe is one of the best corners in the league. Haden has 234 combined tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, 67 pass deflections, and 13 interceptions. He made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and was a member of the All-Pro Second Team. Joe Haden is a great corner and this was a great pick.
2nd Round (38th overall): TJ Ward, S, Oregon
Sadly, TJ Ward played his last season with Cleveland last year. TJ is a hard hitter and this was another great pick. TJ recorded 342 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 5 interceptions, and 22 pass deflections as a Brown. He made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and was a member of the All-Pro Second Team, just like Joe Haden. Another great pick.
2nd Round (59th overall): Montario Hardesty, RB, Tennessee
I liked Hardesty, but injuries hurt his chance to succeed for the Browns. He only played in 23 games over 2 years for Cleveland. He ran the ball 153 times and had 537 total yards and only 1 touchdown.
3rd Round (85th overall): Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
I loved this pick. I loved Colt McCoy. I thought he would be great. In the three seasons he threw for 4388 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also threw 20 picks. His QBR as a Brown was 74.8, which isn’t awful, but it isn’t what I expected from him. He showed flashes of a good QB, but was not consistent. Colt is now on the Redskins.
3rd Round (92nd overall): Shawn Lauvao, OL, Arizona State
Shawn provided us with a few good, but inconsistent years. Shawn just recently left Cleveland and is now a member of the Redskins along with Colt McCoy.
5th Round (160th overall): Larry Asante, S, Nebraska
Asante was on the All Big 12 First Team while he was at Nebraska. Asante didn’t play for the Browns, but was signed by the Buccaneers and played for them. He is now on the Colts.
6th Round (177th overall): Carlton Mitchell, WR, South Florida
Mitchell played in 5 games for the Browns and only caught three passes. He is now playing in the Canadian Football League.
6th Round (186th overall): Clifton Geathers, DL, South Carolina
Clifton never played as a Brown. He has played for the Colts and the Eagles. He is now on the Redskins. He has recorded 18 tackles and a sack on his career. I think he will get more playing time for the Redskins this upcoming year. This was a wasted pick by the Browns, but possibly a good pick up for the Redskins.
While this draft provided us Pro Bowlers in Joe Haden and TJ Ward, the rest of the class was mediocre. The overall grade for this draft would be a C+ and this is not the best draft we have had. I am getting anxious for this year’s draft and I am hopeful to give it a good grade in the future!
