As we all know by now, the Browns took CB Justin Gilbert with the 8th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. So why did Ray Farmer decide to draft him? What does he do for this defense? First off, I believe Farmer decided to pick him because we needed a CB to play across Joe Haden, and we were able to add an additional 1st round pick in the process. So what does Gilbert do for the defense? Gilbert is a very athletic corner who can take it to the house at any time. He has a natural ability to intercept passes, recording 7 interceptions last year. A weakness that he does have is that he is a very weak run supporter, which is very odd for a guy his size. Overall, this is a very good pick, which should fill one of the very few holes the Browns had in their defense. It also helps that we got an additional 1st round pick in the process of trading down to get Gilbert. Ray Farmer has impressed me so far, let’s see if he can continue to work some of his draft magic.
