Mike Gansey Becomes The New Cavs GM
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavs are promoting Mike Gansey to general manager. His most recent job title has been assistant GM.
Koby Altman was the previous GM but was promoted recently to Cleveland’s president of basketball operations. Thus, making this opening available for Gansey.
Mike started as an intern in 2011. Before then, he played high school basketball, then college ball at St. Bonaventure and in West Virginia from 2001-06. Afterward, he played professionally in Italy and China up until 2011.
Gansey has continually climbed the Cavs basketball operations ladder in the past decade. First, he worked under Cavs former GM Chris Grant, then David Griffin and on to Koby Altman.
In 2017, Gansey was honored as the G League Executive of the Year as the general manager of the Cavs’ NBAGL affiliate.
According to reports by Woj, Gansey has played a part in several of Cleveland’s most notable draft choices and roster moves. Including drafting Evan Mobley and Darius Garland and the trade that brought Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert to Cleveland.
