Believe it, Cleveland! Savor it! Soak it in!
In a complete turn of events, the Cleveland Browns acquired quarterback Deshaun Watson in a trade with the Houston Texans. This is the deal:
Five years, 230 million to Watson.
From Houston: “We have agreed to trade QB Deshaun Watson and a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a 2022 first-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2024 first-round pick, 2023 third-round pick and 2024 fourth-round pick.”
Now, the elephant on the page is the fact that Deshaun Watson has 22 pending civil lawsuits against him and did not play last season. The NFL may still suspend Watson for a set amount of games at the beginning of the season. It’s still to be determined.
Current quarterback Baker Mayfield originally demanded to be traded by the Browns and was subsequently denied by the front office. However, with this latest move, it’s looking like the team will trade Baker to a team such as Indianapolis or Seattle.
This is interesting:
“Browns only gave up 1 pick this year and 2 next year Cleveland will *STILL* have 5 picks in the first 118 draft picks this year only 2 teams have more (NYJ, NYG) and they’ll likely add more 2022 draft capital when they trade Baker Mayfield.”
In the last season he played (2020), Watson had 4823 passing yards for an average of 301.4 a game, 33 touchdowns and a QBR of 112.4.
There are a lot of people that are refusing to be Browns fans because of the Watson trade. That is your right and your choice. I will continue to support my team no matter what the case. #DawgCheck
This move is going to end up being something we never forget. Either positively or negatively. Just remember that this quarterback actually sought out Cleveland and that is very rare. Most quarterbacks get stuck here through the draft or are a deadbeat afterthought through free agency late in their careers.
Welcome to Cleveland, Deshaun, and best of luck to you in becoming a member of our beloved Browns!
