1.) The Tandem of Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams
Last year, the Browns made a head-scratching move by selecting CB Denzel Ward with the number four pick. Fans and critics weren’t too thrilled given who was still on the board, but we all know how that turned out. To refresh those memories, he went on to record 53 combined tackles (only 12 were assisted) and three interceptions (per NFL.com). His odd (tackling) technique kept him out of a few games due to concussions, but we can assume with nearly a full season of tape he can adjust to stay effective and on the field. Expect him to be even better.
In this year’s draft, the Brown selected another CB to pair alongside Ward. Andreaz “Greedy” Williams was drafted number 46 overall out of LSU due to his illustrious career. In his two years as a Tiger, he recorded 71 tackles, eight interceptions and 28 passes defended. (per ClevelandBrowns.com) The Cleveland Browns and fans should expect a similar season to that of Denzel’s rookie season, but slightly elevated stats because he’s a more capable tackler, which means he’ll be on the field more. The two should make for a dynamic duo, causing the less capable quarterbacks in the league to think twice about throwing either way, which should make life much easier for the likes of Myles Garrett, Joe Schobert and the rest of the defense.
