Who Wins Out at Wide Receiver?
The Browns currently have 10 wide receivers listed as coming to camp plus David Bell, the drafted rookie out of Purdue has started on the physically unable to perform list (PUP).
Last year the team carried only five wide receivers. Let’s not forget what I mentioned earlier too about running back Demetric Felton and how the team will address keeping him on the roster.
So, there will be a battle at the wide receiver position. The guys that are likely guaranteed a roster spot come the opening game are Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones and David Bell. That leaves a big battle for a couple of spots. I’ll take a guess that the team carries six wide receivers going into the season. Second-year player Anthony Schwartz should have a hold on one spot but that’s no guarantee. If the Browns want Felton on that 53-man roster, then maybe they list him as a wide receiver, but they also signed a free agent wide receiver and special teams specialist in fielding kicks in Jakeem Grant.
So that doesn’t leave much chance for any of the other wide receivers to make the team. That’s why I think Felton or Schwartz could be traded or released.
