It’s one of the hardest things to do as a die-hard sports fan. However, it is an absolutely huge industry, especially in the NFL World. It’s fantasy football and most fans play it each and every season.
What is “fantasy football”? Here’s a definition:
“A competition in which participants select imaginary teams from among the players in a league and score points according to the actual performance of their players.”
The biggest problem is these players on various teams end up playing against the Cleveland Browns in actual matchups. Thus, as a fan, the decision becomes…
A. Rooting for the team
B. Cheering for the players on the opposition. Stars that could take over a game and end up beating the Browns with such dynamic skill sets.
Most fantasy leagues play for actual money as prizes. Now, as exciting as it would be, the Browns winning the Super Bowl will not bring a fan cash. However, being a huge fan comes with pride, excitement and much more.
A true fan would set aside the players on his/her fantasy team when that player(s) are facing the Browns in a game. Even take them out of the lineup. That is extremely hard to do and is certainly a challenge.
Thus, when those thoughts about a player having success against the Browns do start to creep in, it’s almost as if the fan is “cheating” on the Browns with the other players.
The purest of pure Browns fan doesn’t play any type of fantasy football. All the focus is on the Browns players and the team winning football games and ultimately a Super Bowl. Now, you’re not a “sinner” so to speak if you do choose to play. It’s not as if you’ve committed a crime…
So, are you playing fantasy football this year?
Over the years, I’ve played in many, many leagues and felt the conflict when my players were against my favorite team in the Browns. This year, I have yet to decide if I am going to play or not.
The solution to this entire problem: Draft all Browns players…HAHA
