Expert Opinon: OLB Marquis Haynes’ Profile

This senior outside linebacker is most likely going to get drafted in the third of fourth round this year. The 24-year-old is 6-3 and 222 pounds, which is very undersized for his position. He will likely play outside linebacker versus edge rusher, which he played at Ole Miss.

Haynes struggles mightily against the run and that’s due to his size. However, he is very fast and can pass rush well. He had a 4.67 40, 23 reps and a 32-inch verticle at the Combine.

Last season, he had 45 tackles (11 for a loss) and 7.5 sacks.

To be successful in the NFL, Haynes will need to bulk up and become better against the run. Otherwise, he’s just going to be used as a backup specialist for the entirety of his career. Everyone is bigger in the NFL.

I do not see the Browns taking on this project, especially with the linebacking crew of Jamie Collins, Christian Kirksey and Pro Bowler, Joe Schobert.

Best of luck to wherever Marquis Haynes lands. Expect it to be a Day 2 or Day 3 selection. I see him going to the Steelers, Saints or Jets.
