Oklahoma State University’s Marcell Ateman is a vertical threat that also has good size. He’s the type of player that one would trust to catch a jump ball on first and goal from the nine or also a 50-yard deep pass. However, the secondaries he faced in the BIG 12 were weak and it will be difficult for him to play against NFL-caliber players.
At the Combine, he ran 4.62 40-yard dash, only 13 bench presses, 34″ verticle jump and a 121″ broad jump.
Ateman lacks that initial burst of the line, but he certainly makes up for it once he gets going.
Despite having such great size, Ateman does not always use it to his advantage. Additionally, he lacks any type of underneath game as he was a deep-ball receiver in college. You cannot be so one dimensional in the professional game.
I see Ateman going in the 4th or 5th round and I could see the Browns targeting him if a guy like Corey Coleman or Ricardo Louis gets traded. If not, it’ll be a pretty crowded wide receivers room.
