Expert Opinion: Holton Hill Profile
Holton Hill is your prototypical dream NFL cornerback at 6’3” and just over 200 pounds who possess next-level ability. The Houston Lamar native could be the #1 defensive back prospect in this draft, but he was suspended the last three games of the 2017 college football season by his team, the Texas Longhorns, for violating team rules.
The Texas star corner came out swinging his freshman year in 2015 and played all 12 games. He started the last eight games and earned All-Big 12 honors after tallying 49 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception for a touchdown. Hill hit a sophomore slump, only playing in five games in 2016, recording only 22 tackles and five pass break-ups. “Hollywood” made a comeback most of his junior season this past year with 51 tackles, six pass break-ups and two interceptions in nine games before his suspension.
Hill will drop in this draft because of character issues. He missed seven games his sophomore season for an undisclosed reason and he was suspended the last three games of the season last November for failing a drug test. The talent, physical ability and raw physical traits that Hill possesses will save him and still land him a spot on Day Two in Round 2-3 of the NFL Draft. The Browns clearly need to add to the cornerback room in a big way and could see Hill as the steal of the draft (if he gets it together) with either the 64th or 65th overall pick in the draft.
