Examining Kirk Cousins’ Suitors
Cleveland Browns – WOOOO!!!!
Projected Cap Space: $110 million
Current QB’s on Roster: DeShone Kizer, Cody Kessler
Why Cousins Makes Sense: The Browns boast the most cap space in the league. They could give Cousins as much money as he wants and still be able to sign other impact free agents. Along with that cap space, the Browns have the most draft picks of any team, including the first and fourth picks. This could be a quick turnaround if done correctly. The offensive line has been paid and should be considered a strength. Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman, and David Njoku make for a nice trio to grow with. Throw in Jarvis Landry in free agency and Saquon Barkley in the draft and suddenly things look a lot different.
Why Cousins Doesn’t Make Sense: The Browns hold the first and fourth pick in a draft loaded with potential franchise quarterbacks. Cousins will be 30-years-old at the start of the 2018 season. Darnold and Rosen will be 20-years-old at the start of the 2018 season. That’s potentially ten extra years of elite QB play. Why waste $30 million on QB in free agency when you can get one for cheap in the draft? There’s also that stigma the Browns still carry and it looks like this: 1-31. Why would Cousins want to waste his time with the most dysfunctional franchise of the past 20 years?
