Examining Kirk Cousins’ Suitors
New York Jets
Projected Cap Space: $79 million
Current QB’s on Roster: Christian Hackenberg, Bryce Petty, Joel Stave
Why Cousins Makes Sense: At $79 million in cap space, the Jets certainly have the money to give Cousins whatever type of contract he would want, along with bringing in more free agent help. The Jets currently sit at the sixth spot in the first round. They may not be able to get a top-tier QB prospect without trading up. Signing Cousins would enable the Jets to add more talent around him with that sixth pick.
Why Cousins Doesn’t Make Sense: The Jets are devoid of almost any offensive talent. Jermaine Kearse and Robby Anderson are their current top receivers. Anderson has had trouble with the law this offseason and it remains to be seen if he will be suspended or not. Would Cousins really want to be the QB in the heavy media scrutiny that comes with being the Jets QB?
