Down on the Farm: Preview
As baseball season is starting to heat up, we at CST will be delving into some of the players from an often over-looked aspect of the team, the Minor Leagues. Our “Down on the Farm” series is meant to help educate fans on what the Indians have in their farm system.
This past spring training, there were almost 200 players at Indians Minor League Camp. Many of them have been dispersed among the Columbus Clippers (AAA), Akron RubberDucks (AA) and the three A-Level teams of Lynchburg Hilcats, Lake County Captains and Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Although we will not discuss every player, we intend to bring information on some of the high-risers.
While some names you may know, we plan on writing about players on each level to help broaden your knowledge on numerous players. Understanding who these players are may help us fans understand the decisions made by the front office. For example, when a player is not re-signed many fans get upset because they feel it’s all about money when in reality it can often be attributed to the front office having faith and an understanding that a certain minor leaguer will be ready to step in. Additionally, if the Indians will be making any trades by the deadline, it might be good to know who these players are that we are trading away.
The purpose of these articles is to give you the fan a broader look at the organization, so be on the lookout for the first of many “Down on the Farm” articles that should be dropping soon!
