Donovan Mitchell And Yearning For THAT Reception

Well, it was a special night in Cleveland on Wednesday as the Cavaliers beat the Los Angeles Lakers in dominating fashion by a score of 134-110. At 5-0, it’s certainly shaping up to be a special season for the wine and gold. However, it was more than the play and winning by 24 that made it a great night.

It was once again the return of LeBron James, a Cleveland Cavaliers legend and the man that brought a championship to Cleveland back in 2016. The reception of James was great and it was fun seeing his son Bronny also playing for the Lakers too.

On a different front, coming into the 2024 free agency period, there was a lot of question on whether superstar Donovan Mitchell was going to end up re-signing with the Cavs or look for a different team to go to.

Mitchell started his first five years with the Utah Jazz before playing the last two in Cleveland. The 28-year-old is an elite scorer and true leader of the team here in Cleveland. Unfortunately, with Mitchell, the Cavs have yet to make it out of the Eastern Conference semifinal playoffs.

Everyone knows the story of LeBron getting drafted and shining in The Land, leaving for Miami and the Heat and then coming back home and winning the title in ’16. The last seven years for James have been in Los Angeles. 22 years played total which is incredible.

At age 39, it’s understood that James’ career is coming to a close within the next few years. With his size, strength and durability, who knows when exactly that retirement will be? However, the love and appreciation for everything that has been done is there for sure.

If I’m Donovan Mitchell, I take a look at the James reception and think about my career here in Cleveland. The man did take the bold move to re-sign on this team and that had to be with a goal of ultimately winning a title. Respect to him for that choice.

Cleveland loves LeBron for many, many reasons. However, it’s that championship that makes it so special overall to our fans. Even with a return in a different team’s jersey or whatnot. Mitchell should yearn to achieve that goal so the fans in Cleveland will love him, even more than they already do, because of being a title winner. It hasn’t happened for eight years…

The Cavs clearly have an elite team and it shows with the start. Maybe this is the year to get back to the winning ways and take it for a title. One that will create even more love for the superstar forever.
