Does LeBron James Retiring NOW Make Sense?

Honestly, at the beginning of this free agency, my answer to the title would be “No. LeBron should come back for at least another season and try to win another ring…especially choosing Cleveland.”

However, what has he been doing all of this time?

Well, going golfing with the homies, attending Jay Z concerts and just having a great time, all documented for the world to see. I’ve already said this is rude and won’t go into that again. If you want to read about that, CLICK HERE.

Let’s get down to business.

ANY choice of another team besides the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron is looked at as a “ring chaser” if he manages to win it all and end the year as such. Here’s the biggest difference with returning to Cleveland and it can be described with one word…

Pressure.

Honestly, the expectation if LeBron returns to Cleveland is that the Cavs should contend for a title and if they don’t win it all, the season is looked at as a failure. Yes, LeBron will get the theatrics at every game, especially if he announces that this is for sure the last year no matter what. This article isn’t to say appreciating his career achievements if he plays is wrong.

Another point is the fact that I believe there is nothing left to prove. People either will think of him as the GOAT or remain set on Michael Jordan no matter what happens this season.

In a perfect world, he would help Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs win another championship in Cleveland and this will be an amazing storybook ending to it all, celebrating it with a parade as a hero for life. I just don’t see that necessarily happening despite being contenders in the East.

Even more is the realization of retiring and what isn’t needed of a person not working. Most offseasons, we’re used to LeBron posting videos of himself lifting weights and getting ready for the upcoming season. Recently, what he’s sharing are all things he really can only do during the offseason or… as a retired man.

Maybe, just like every other person retiring…he wants to chill instead of work.

In summation, I just question what benefits LeBron in playing again. This doesn’t mean he can’t be a future coach, GM, or something to get involved again in his future. Just what he could do this season instead of playing has come to the forefront.

If I were a betting man, I’m not saying this will be his choice or anything. Merely…an idea.
