Does Corey Coleman’s Injury Open the Door for Jeremy Maclin?

Corey Coleman will miss a little bit of time with a sore hamstring and an undisclosed injury he received during OTAs. Corey, according to Hue Jackson, landed on a football. This is a tough break for Coleman as he’s dealt with a broken hand last season that sidelined him for most of his rookie year. Luckily, this injury may only keep him out until training camp in late July. Thankfully, it won’t sideline him for any of the season or at least it doesn’t sound like it will.

This campaign will be huge for Coleman because last year was derailed due to his broken hand. He really needs to come out strong and prove he can be the team’s leading wide receiver. Last season, in 10 games, he had 33 receptions for 413 yards and three touchdowns. Now, these numbers aren’t too impressive, but he was out six games with his broken hand. He started off the season very promising, so hopefully, he can come out stronger this year.

Some interesting news came out right around the time of Coleman’s injury. Jeremy Maclin was released by the Kansas City Chiefs. Maclin had been the Chiefs number one wide receiver since they signed him back in 2015. Last year, he recorded 44 receptions for 536 yards and two touchdowns. These aren’t great numbers, but he was also injured for a good chunk of the season. The two years before that he had 1,000-yard seasons. This included eight touchdowns in 2015 and 10 in 2014.

When he’s healthy, he’s easily a top 15 receiver.

The injury to Coleman could open the doors to signing Maclin. He could provide nice veteran leadership to a young team and could really pair well with Kenny Britt. The Browns’ biggest concern right now should probably be wide receiver and Maclin could be the perfect fit. He still has a ton of upside. Paired with Cody Kessler or DeShone Kizer, he could very well go back to being the 1,000-yard receiver he was just two seasons ago. Also, if Coleman can stay healthy that would make for a great receiving core with Britt, Maclin joining him.

Truly, it’d make for a dangerous group.
