Deshaun Watson: Why Are You Fans Acting Like It’s Over?

0

ON THIS DAY: The Cleveland Browns on March 18, 2022, made the blockbuster trade for QB Deshaun Watson.

In case you forgot the details of the deal, the Browns sent the Texans their 2022, 2023 and 2024 first-round picks, a 2022 fourth-round pick, a third-round pick in 2023 and a fourth-round pick in 2024.

Yikes.

The first thing is that a lot of people don’t like Watson as a person. Watson was accused of sexual misconduct and harassment by 26 women in 2021 and 2022. He was suspended by the NFL for 11 games. Thus, some will never like the guy regardless.

Watson played six games for the Browns in 2022 and six games in 2023 because of a shoulder injury.

There was a reason the Browns made this trade in the first place and it was because of how Watson performed in 2020 for Houston where he threw for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns compared to only seven interceptions (112.4 rating).

Look, is there a chance this could still go down as one of if not the worst trade in the history of sports? Well, yes.  Watson has sucked, been suspended, injured and done practically nothing to help this team succeed. Plus, the amount of money he is being paid along with the picks given up. Absolutely, awful.

But, I referenced the 2020 stats. There is the ability that Watson once showed and that needs to be remembered. However, how can this quarterback redeem himself and change the narrative? Yes, and here’s how!

First, stay out of trouble. Deshaun, no more fooling around, getting accused of stuff and ultimately getting more games suspended in the future.

Next, stay healthy. I’ve had shoulder problems myself but what’s great is I don’t have to play quarterback like you bro. Being able to start every game would be huge in the future.

Also, ignore the haters. People like me, the media. They’re always going to be talk and that will remain true forever. A guy I like to reference is LeBron James. Cleveland hated that man to the core, then loved him when he won the title after coming back in 2016. Winning cures all and people will like you if you win.

Hopefully, a lot of people will be saying sorry for doubting you in the future with these remaining years. My point is simply that it’s not completely over. It’s fair to make said references to the worst contract and whatnot, but that may change. Make it the BEST contract ever.

The Russell Wilson deal is different because it is now over with him signing with the Steelers. For the Browns, people loved Joe Flacco and he played well for sure. Yet that playoff game did show how he wasn’t elite or anything of that nature. Neither is Jameis Winson, the new backup quarterback.

Like Apollo Creed said, “You’re gonna have to go through hell. Worse than any nightmare that you’ve ever dreamed. But in the end, you know you’ll be the one standing. You know what you’ve gotta go. Do it. Do it!” (RIP Carl Weathers)

Now, let’s see what this season holds and if you’re able to change the narrative or make all the fans right with the contract talks.
