Deshaun Watson Has “That Game” Opportunity

Before writing this, I’ll admit that I did not think Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson should’ve been named the starter and felt that it was a terrible move. However, it’s important to also remember this has been a three-game sample to start a single season (long way to go), with a tenure as a whole that was awful until these final two games.

Almost 30 years old and I like to reflect on the epic games of the past. One game in particular was LeBron James with the Cavs on May 31st in 2007 to beat Detroit in ECF Game 5. It allowed the Cavs a chance to make it to The Finals and the way he played that night, I’ll always remember. Certainly, he’s had many others, including that one in 2016 along with his buddy Kyrie Irving on the Cavs… To be clear, I am, in no way, comparing LeBron James to Deshaun Watson.

LeBron scooping and scoring in Game 5 against Detroit!

Deshaun Watson has played a lot better than expected and did the most important part by winning two out of the first three games of the season to calm the fan base down in addition to the wins being wins. I always pump the breaks and think that it wasn’t like each win was a blowout, but he did enough to get the wins.

Now, the Pittsburgh Steelers come to Cleveland on Thursday night and this is an opportunity for Watson to complete his signature start to the season, advance the Browns to a 3-1 record and prove to so many fans (thus far) that they were completely wrong…including me.

On the flip side, it gives all of those fans yearning to get to say “I TOLD YOU SO!” an opportunity to thrive with a bad loss that leads the Browns to a 2-2 record. It’s also not just a win or loss, but one against the biggest rival this franchise has had for many, many years. Both the Steelers and Browns are at a 2-1 record along with the rest of the AFC North Division.

Additionally, the fact that it’s a night game definitely adds to the suspense and hype simply by the time of day and the fact that it’s a home game in Cleveland as well.

So, Deshaun.

Continue to prove me wrong. Win the game. Not just in the “ehhh he was ok and got lucky the defense won it for him.” But really play your best on the offensive side and make fans start to be nervous that practically all of us were so wrong and will need to go back and delete tweets (and articles).

As much as this is a Browns game, I believe it’s also a Deshaun Watson game that could be a signature. One where fans can look back and say I can’t believe he played so well and how wrong everyone was this entire offseason. It could also go the other way in a loss, where the calls for Shedeur Sanders and tanking are back…

Lastly, I am not predicting a steller watson performance, but pointing out the opportunity presented to him with this huge battle set. I ask everyone to stick with Cleveland Sports Talk for great articles, updates and a silly meme or two, hating on the Steelers before. (Our Twitter feed is below).
