Division three football has always been known as the true blue collar conference. Denison University in Granville, Ohio is no stranger to this as they play in arguably the toughest football conference outside of the Ohio Athletic Conference, the North Coast Athletic Conference.

This year The “Big Red” got an upgrade as they have a new defensive coordinator in former NFL defensive lineman and Cleveland native Keith Rucker Sr. This comes as no surprise to those in the know in division three as coach Rucker has had a great track record as a defensive coach as he was the defensive coordinator at Capital University before receiving the title at Denison. I spoke with coach Rucker earlier and this is what he had to say.

” I’m very ecstatic to get the job. Coaching is what i do, teaching is what i do. It’s a passion I will carry to my grave. Having an opportunity to influence and have an effect on young men’s lives and decisions is priceless!”

The hiring of coach Rucker should be a huge plus for the “Big Red” as they have sported seven wins or better the last five years, and playing in the NCAC defense is key.

Due to Covid-19, Division Three decide to hold off the 2020 season until springtime. Most teams will be playing anywhere from two to six game seasons. The “Big Red” produced an 8-2 overall record and 7-2 in conference play and could possibly be the favorite to win the NCAC by the time the season starts in March. One thing is for sure, the Denison “Big Red” will be a team to watch in 2021 and future seasons to come.
