Darius Garland Records Career-High and First Career Triple-Double Against the Jazz

Wednesday night in Salt Lake City, Utah, Darius Garland and the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Utah Jazz 111-91.

Despite a bad shooting night from Darius Garland, he recorded the first triple-double of his young career. He scored 11 points, pulled down 10 boards and dished out a career-high 15 assists.

What you can’t help but love about Garland is his ability to find ways to impact the game when the baskets aren’t falling for him. He shot just 3-11 from the field and 1-8 from the three-point range. So, instead of looking to score himself, he picked the Jazz’s defense apart by getting teammates involved.

Six Cavaliers scored in double figures in the balanced fashion we love to see. Small forward Lamar Stevens stepped up big time for the team scoring a career-high 23 points in the Cavs win, 15 of them in the 3rd quarter alone.

Also, forward Lauri Markkanen contributed 20 points on 8-11 shooting from the field. Both he and Stevens were beneficiaries of Garland’s playmaking abilities.

After the game, reporters asked Utah Jazz Star Donovan Michell about Darius Garland. Donovan stated, “Darius Garland should be in the All-Star game.  Even not shooting the ball well tonight, you saw the impact he had. What he is doing is next-level.”

Cavs improve to 24-18 in the win-loss column, 3-1 so far on their current six-game road trip out West. They still have games against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday before returning home next week. The Cavs are still sitting at 6th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
