Which undrafted free agents have the best shot at making the team?
Kyle – I believe the player almost guaranteed to make the roster is DT Trenton Thompson from Georgia. Thompson was the #1 ranked player nationally in the 2015 recruiting class, but failed to become a star player immediately like many predicted. This shouldn’t be a knock on Thompson, because he tallied an impressive stat line this past year: 56 tackles, nine TFLs and five sacks for an interior lineman. The lack of depth for the Browns at DT will allow for Thompson to step in and hopefully break the rotation. Let’s see if he can make an impact year one. Another guy I can see the Browns retaining is OT Desmond Harrison from West Georgia. Linemen depth is an issue and many analysts saw Harrison as a day three pick.
Will – I think the UDFA that has the best shot to make the team is Evan Berry. The Browns made a lot of additions to the team and mainly to the defensive secondary. This was a unit that was arguably the weakest group on the team. The additions of all the FAs, Randall and drafting Ward were certainly an upgrade. I think Berry will find a spot on the team as a special teams. He led the kick return team and ended his career as the school’s leader in kick return average. Finally, he is brother of All-Pro Safety, Eric Berry. This gives him a knowing of how to be a professional.
