Could LeGarrette Blount Fill the Void at Running Back?

The 2017 NFL season is finally over. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the mighty New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Now that it’s finally over, we can start looking towards free agency a little bit more. One massive hole the Cleveland Browns will have to fill this free agency is at running back. As much as I love Isaiah Crowell and think he’s an incredible running back, I honestly don’t believe that the new front office will re-sign him. This leaves the question as to who will take over? Most will want Saquon Barkley to take over. However, I think there’s a much better option and that’s Bruce Anderson out of North Dakota State in the 2019 NFL Draft, but that’s a discussion for another day.

Before the draft, I think the Browns should take a good look at LeGarrette Blount.

LeGarrette is a big bruising power back, who is coming off back to back Super Bowl win and a great season in Philadelphia. He signed a one-year contract with the Eagles and finished with 766 yards on only 173 attempts with two TDs, This is because the Eagles added Jay Ajayi right before the trade deadline, so he saw his playing time diminish a bit, which could also mean that the Eagles are looking to move on from LeGarrette. He’s only 31, so he still has at least a year left in him. He would be a great temporary back while we wait to draft Bruce in 2019.

Blount would be a great fit for the Browns, too. With Todd Haley just joining the staff as the OC, we saw what he did with Le’Veon Bell. It would be fun to see what he could do with LeGarrette. He also fits right in with Cleveland. He’s a hard-nosed guy who’s built and can take a beating. I’ll always believe that power backs make the best running backs and in the AFC North, having a power back would be spectacular, especially with the defenses of each team. It would be a huge advantage to add him to our team for at least one year. He would add veteran leadership and some great football IQ to the locker room.

Signing LeGarrette would be a slam dunk.
