ATTENTION ALL COLLIN SEXTON HATERS: Where are you now?
Collin Sexton led the Cavs to a victory over the Detroit Pistons tonight, 126-119. He finished the game with 27 points, going 5/6 from behind the arc. This now his six straight game with over 23 points, joining Austin Carr as the only other Cavs rookie to accomplish that feat.
Tristan, Love, and Larry Nance have all missed time due to injury, opening the door for the Cavs young players to step up. There’s been decent production from some of their other young guys, but the last six games have been pure domination from Sexton. He’s averaged 26.5 PPG this month, shooting 57% from the field and 56% from three.
Sexton’s game has truly evolved in the 2nd half of the season. His 3-point shooting is vastly improved over both his college career and the beginning of the season. In the Cavs 33 games since January 1st, He’s shot 42% from 3. With his jump shot being the biggest knock coming out of Alabama, the fact he’s been able to show improvement in such a short period of time is impressive. This is a prime example of the superior work ethic he brings to the organization.
While it’s great to see Sexton playing so well, it’s coming at the cost of their lottery standings. The Cavs are now only one game behind the Chicago Bulls for the 3rd best odds. Here’s to hoping the Cavs can continue to show growth, but without costing their future with the lottery odds.
