Colin Cowherd Continues His Hate For Baker Mayfield In His Latest Gimmick

Fox radio and television sports analyst and personality Colin Cowherd is at it again with his barrage of anti-Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield takes on his national show. Today he introduced a segment called, “Mayfield Versus the Field.” This where he picked 16 other NFL quarterbacks to go up against Mayfield and who he would take in that head-to-head battle.

Cowherd has a history of hating on Mayfield ever since he was drafted by the Browns in 2018. First, he said he was “undraftable.” Then when the Browns selected Mayfield as the 1st pick in the 2018 draft, Cowherd went further to say Mayfield was more of a Mazda than a Maserati and wasn’t worthy of the #1 status.

Fast forward to today’s latest take by Cowherd, who actually called himself “a radio idiot” when he interviewed Mayfield prior to the start of the 2018 season. At least Cowherd can at least acknowledge on the occasion that he’s doing these things to draw ratings. Cowherd is fully aware of the attention he gets from Browns fans that are very protective of their franchise quarterback. It is, however, odd that Cowherd discusses Mayfield, almost like an obsession routinely on his show.

Cowherd rated 12 quarterbacks better than Mayfield and four quarterbacks where he rated Mayfield as being better. Interestingly, Cowherd didn’t include quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Deshaun Watson or Aaron Rodgers, but did include Tom Brady in the list. Here’s the list and my brief thoughts on each selection by Cowherd:

He took Mayfield over these four quarterbacks:

Ben Roethlisberger

Tua Tagovailoa

Mitch Trubisky

Jared Goff

(I agree with all these quarterbacks being below Mayfield rank at this point in their careers. Goff recently has had more success and has been to a Super Bowl, but Mayfield’s future is brighter)

Cowherd took these quarterbacks ahead of Mayfield:

Tom Brady

(No argument from me.)

Lamar Jackson

(I see this as a draw. Yes, Jackson is more athletic, but Mayfield is more accurate with his passes.)

Derek Carr

(No way! Yes, the Raiders beat the Browns this past season, but Mayfield is the better quarterback.)

Jimmy Garoppolo

(That’s funny! No way! Garoppolo is injury prone and is a has-been.)

Matt Ryan

(Really, Matt Ryan!? Ha.)

Kyler Murray

(Athletic quarterback, but no way is he as talented as Mayfield.)

Dak Prescott

(Ha, really? I’d take Prescott over let’s say Murray or Carr. But with Mayfield, look at how the Browns dismantled the Cowboys last season in week 5!)

Ryan Tannehill

(Hell No! Remember the Browns destroying the Titans this past season?)

Kirk Cousins

(I consider this a draw. Both have been coached by Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski.)

Carson Wentz

(I wrote an article earlier this season about Wentz and Mayfield. Wentz did take the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl. But Wentz has lost his confidence and is seeing ghosts.)

Joe Burrow

(I get it, Burrow was the #1 pick this past season, but he isn’t at Mayfield’s level.)

Matthew Stafford

(What is it with this mirage that since Stafford has gone to the LA Rams now that they are a better football team than they were with Goff? The Rams won’t be winning a Super Bowl next season or any Super Bowl. Mayfield will take the Browns to the Super Bowl and Stafford will be retiring!)

Thanks again, Cowherd, for the entertaining and ridiculous takes against Mayfield! I can’t wait to see what you come up with next. As a Browns fan, it’s fuel to the fire for Mayfield and will only help the Browns win a Super Bowl!
