Cold Games Suck
I justed watched the Indians lose 1-0 to the Royals.
The temperature at the ballpark was 35 degrees and it felt like 28. That is good weather for December football, but it is not how baseball should be played.
Now, I understand that both teams have to endure the conditions, so I am not questioning the outcome of the game as fair or unfair. What I questioning is the quality of baseball?
Personally, I wouldn’t want to sit and freeze my behind off for three hours to watch a 1-0 game. It’s absolutely awful when neither team can drive the ball because of the temperature.
I propose that the MLB start the season on May 1 and shorten it. 162 games is a very long season and it’s not necessary. Attendance-wise, ballparks lose fans that don’t want to sit in the cold.
The players must be absolutely miserable having to stand out there, hit a ball coming 95 MPH or worse of all, getting hit by the ball. Ouch.
Frankly, I do not see the harm in extending the offseason a bit. The season will still be very long and the postseason, which also has cold games, will not be pushed back even further. Simply put, the quality of play on the field is not the same when the temperature drops.
