Cleveland’s Newfound Media Attention

0

Let’s face it, any time you get Johnny Football on your team, there is going to be a lot of media attention. However, that is not the only reason that the national media want’s to be in Cleveland. The Cavaliers just won the NBA Draft Lottery with only a 1.7% chance of winning it. The Indians swept the best team in baseball on a walk off balk. Right now, things are just going our way in Cleveland, and it feels really good.

The First thing that led to this media frenzy was when the traded up in the NFL Draft to select Johnny Manziel at pick 22. Before he even threw a pass in rookie mini camp, almost every national storyline that you would hear would be about Johnny Football. What the media forgets sometimes is that we actually drafted someone BEFORE Johnny Football, and his name is Justin Gilbert. I feel really bad for the kid, he was drafted with the 8th overall pick in the draft and the media barely pays attention to him. While he did say that it takes the pressure off of him, I still feel bad for the guy.

Another reason the Browns are getting a lot of media attention is because Josh Gordon is facing a season long suspension. While this is very negative news, it is still a huge storyline. It’s really funny because the media isn’t really worried about how this affects the Browns organization, they are worried about how this affects Johnny Manziel. Why are they worried about how this affects Johnny Manziel if he was announced as the backup quarterback. Needless to say, all of the storylines around the Browns is because of Johnny Football.

The second thing that has brought all this attention to Cleveland is because the Cavaliers won the NBA Draft Lottery while having only a 1.7% chance to do so. This now makes the Cavs a lottery dynasty, winning it 3 of the past 4 years. Needless to say, this really helps the Cavs. Coaching candidates will be lining up at the door for an interview, you get Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, or Joel Embiid to pair up with Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters, Lebron could come back, and maybe best of all, you bring Cleveland back to relevance in the NBA.

The last thing that has brought Cleveland to a lot of attention is the Indians completing a 3 game sweep over arguably th ebest team in baseball, the Detroit Tigers. The last game, which lasted 13 innings and took over 5 hours to finish, ended on a walk off balk. Al Albuquerque ended up in a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 13th, and balked Asdrubal Cabrera home from 3rd base. This is exactly what the Indians needed to get their confidence back. Look for the Indians to really play well over the coming weeks.

I think the city of Cleveland has been waiting for all this media attention. The best part about it is that all 3 major Cleveland sports teams are pitching in to really put Cleveland back on the map as a sports town. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride because the next few years are going to be really fun to be a Cleveland sports fan.
