Amazingly, a crazy turn of events has happened in recent weeks for Cleveland sports. Finally, things are happening that are pushing this city in the right direction. From both the Browns and Cavs drafts, to the Indians winning two in a row against Detroit, Cleveland’s got the mojo…for real this time!

A new regime taking over in Cleveland, and the #4 and #26 picks in the 2014 NFL Draft had Browns fans excited for what was to come. Early in the draft, a trade with Buffalo Bills gave us another first round pick in next year’s draft; presumably a early to middle round selection.

The Browns addressed a huge need by selecting talented Oklahoma corner back Justin Gilbert. While this pick was a disappointment at the time because of the Manziel-craze, we did get Johnny later in the draft making the Gilbert pick nothing short of a stellar one! The Browns jumped up from the 26th pick to the 22nd slot to snag the Texas A&M stud.

Seeing pictures, videos and posts of fans going absolutely ballistic about the drafting of Johnny Manziel was crazy awesome. Grown men were falling to the floor and screaming like toddlers, household items were smashed out of pure excitement, and shirts were taken off to be used as rally towels as well!

Johnny Cleveland was real! …and then terrible news broke just the next day.

We found out that Browns top wide receiver Josh Gordon may possibly get suspended for all of the 2014 season for failing yet another drug test. Amongst the quarterback duress of last year, he still managed to put up the top numbers in the league while only playing in 14 of the 16 games.

And it hurt. Felt like getting stabbed in the back. We were cheated, angry, but most importantly disappointed. It seemed as if every good break we got was ruined by bad news.

But we came together. As a city, as fans, as people. We dusted ourselves off, stood back up, and continued to keep moving forward as the city of Cleveland always does.

Quickly, the Browns front office signed wide receivers Earl Bennett, a former Chicago Bear and Miles Austin, a former Dallas Cowboy. Neither of these guys will replace Gordon’s magic if indeed he is suspended, but they are talented enough to fill the void.

Last season, the Cavaliers finished with another disappointing 33-49 record. Heading into the offseason, trying to lure Lebron James and other free agents to Cleveland seemed more important than the draft. It was an assumption that the 9th best odds would give us the 9th pick, meaning that we weren’t quite in the running for the top players.

Then, a miracle happen. When deputy commissioner Mark Tatum opened up the 9th pick…IT WENT TO DETROIT. Automatically, the Cavaliers were guaranteed a top-three selection. The screams, cheers and jumping began. It was Manziel all over again.

The third pick….PHILADELPHIA!

THE UNTHINKABLE HAD BEEN DONE! With only a 1.7% chance of receiving the first pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers had done it. Receiving their third number one pick in four years in dramatic fashion! Kyrie Irving, Anthony Bennett…and now who? That’s the question at hand.

The minds of Cavs fans now shift slightly away from impending free agency and onto the draft. Could we draft Andrew Wiggins out of Kansas? Maybe Duke’s Jabari Parker? What about big man Joel Embiid, a teammate of Wiggins on the Jayhawks.

It’s mind-boggling, really. First, general manager Ray Farmer worked his magic to select two stars in the first round of the NFL Draft. Now, the Cavs receiving an absolute blessed with another chance to select a star at #1. Oh, and the Indians are winners of two straight over the Detroit Tigers.

The vibe in Cleveland is great, and our potential is at an all-time high. Finally, it is my belief that Cleveland sports will rise to greatness, and become a force around the country. Strive for greatness.

Cleveland Rocks!
