The Browns wrapped up OTA’s this week and will complete their offseason with mandatory veteran mini-camp on 10th thru the 12th. Training Camp will begin at the end of July. The week remained fairly quiet from major news. Manziel and Hoyer continued to battle this week and each reportedly were picked off multiple times. This summer is shaping out to be the most exciting quarterback battle in the history of the Browns. A surprising release came Friday as Quentin Groves was released. He had pass rushing capability and proved to be a valuable special teamer in his limited action due to injury. He served as a special team captain last season. Wide Receiver Nate Burleson had some interesting comments comparing Johnny Manziel and Lions quarterback Matt Stafford. “The one thing they are quite comfortable in is that they are quietly cocky, which is a great characteristic to have at the quarterback position” he continued to say “You want to walk in the huddle and know that the guy throwing the ball, you’re, like, he’s the best, Johnny has that. Matt has that. We’ll see what happens…”
Johnny Manziel brings this fan base restored hope. The vibe around the Browns hasn’t been this excited since their return in 1999. Manziel was scheduled to throw out the first pitch at the Indians game Wednesday night, but it his first pitched was cancelled due to rain. The amount of Browns number 2 Manziel jerseys at the ball park was unbelievable. There was such a buzz and excitement in the air for a first pitch like none before. Prior to the game and though out the delay, it had sense of a Browns home opener. This is a football town and Johnny is here to be the centerfold of that for years to come.
In other non-related football news Johnny Manziel got drafted again. With the 837th pick in the MLB Draft the San Diego Padres selected Johnny Manziel. MLB.com listed Manziel as a short-stop. Manziel did not play college baseball at College Station and will be used as a quick media promotion for the Padres. They might need a quality pitcher to throw out a first pitch.
