2023 NFL Draft:
Drafted by the Cleveland Browns at 140th overall (5th round)

Ideal Role: Fits perfectly as a developmental QB in the spread offense system

Strengths:

  • Showcases outstanding speed as a running QB, he’s got the ability to make defenders look absolutely silly when given the chance
  • Experience is a major plus; five-year starter at UCLA and by all accounts, is an excellent leader on-and-off the football field
  • When passing, Dorian Thompson-Robinson displays a quick release and above average arm strength
  • Average sized NFL QB at 6’2, 203lbs, yet is a spectacular athlete specimen shown with his 4.56 40-yard-dash
  • Battled through injuries throughout his college career, as UCLA head coach Chip Kelly called him “The toughest kid I’ve ever been around”

Weaknesses:

  • Inconsistent with his timing and touch when throwing the football; feet are not properly set when making throws which play a huge part
  • Takes too many sacks for his own good, could get him killed in the NFL if he doesn’t fix that
  • When pressured in the pocket, he gets punished due to bad pocket presence
  • Ball security is a huge concern; as DTR had 10 fumbles in 2022 alone and 39 fumbles throughout his five year college football career

Career Achievements: 2020 Manning Award watch list, 2x Second-team All-Pac-12 (2020, 2021)

Fun Fact: Dorian Thompson-Robinson was high school teammates with Browns rookie WR Cedric Tillman while at Bishop Gorman High School.

DTR Draft Comparison: Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley

Final Verdict: B- Grade; He’s going to be a difference maker for the Cleveland Browns for years as a developmental talent, I truly believe that DTR would shine if the unfortunate situation happens that Deshaun Watson gets injured.
