Cleveland Browns hopeful on signing XFL’s Defensive Player of the Year after impressive workout

The Cleveland Browns seem very likely to be signing XFL superstar Pita Taumoepenu after impressing team officials during individual workouts on the afternoon of May 10th.

It was first reported by ESPN Cleveland’s Brad Stainbrook, stating that the workout was “complete and went well”, the team also had “good things to say” about Taumoepenu’s fitness & performance.

Pita Taumoenpenu began his college career at the University of Utah, earning an All-Pac 12 honorable mention and is 5thmost all-time in sacks for Utah football history for 21.5 sacks.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, Taumoepenu was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round (202nd overall pick), signing a four-year 2.54 million dollar rookie deal.

Since getting cut by the 49ers in 2019: Pita Taumoepenu has played for numerous teams such as the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, & the Denver Broncos.

After struggling to find consistent success in the National Football League, it finally clicked for Taumoepenu after being signed by XFL’s Las Vegas Vipers, earning 24 total tackles and 6.5 sacks for the 2023 XFL season.

After such a amazing career turnaround and winning Defensive Player of the Year in the revival of the XFL, teams are interested and Cleveland seems to be the most.

XFL players aren’t allowed to sign with NFL teams till tomorrow on May 15th, so expect the Browns to get a good deal done with a phenomenal player destined for a career comeback.
