This is the Cleveland Browns year.
The Browns had a very successful season last year but still fell short of their ultimate goal in the end. Regardless of how last season went, the Browns have a chance to improve their team this offseason and try to bring the Lombardi trophy to Cleveland.
As the draft approaches this year, the Browns are looking to add pieces to their team to get them over the hump and into the Super Bowl. Even though their team had a solid performance in the playoffs last year, there is still a lot of work to be done in order for the Browns to win it all this year.
The Browns need to start their Super Bowl run by solidifying their defense. Because they missed out on the JJ Watt Palooza, the Browns might want to try to compensate for this by drafting a pass rusher with their top pick. With everyone’s eyes on the quarterbacks in this draft class, it is a huge possibility that a top-five pash rusher in this draft could slide to the Browns at the 26th selection.
Some players in the draft that could make a tremendous impact on this Browns team include Miami edge rusher Gregory Rousseau, Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah or even Michigan edge rusher Kwity Paye.
Even though there is a possibility of a top-five pash rusher sliding to them late in the first round, the Browns must be aggressive in order to guarantee anything. The Browns currently own nine total picks in this year’s draft which should give them enough firepower to move up and down in the draft to pick the perfect player. If the Browns are certainly in win-now mode, which their fans are certainly hoping they are, then they must be aggressive and not just stay in the 26th spot by moving around in this year’s draft. The Browns were just one player away from defeating the Kansas City Chiefs last year. If the Browns can move up to get that one player in this draft at the expense of possibly a second or third-round draft pick, the outcome of winning a Super Bowl definitely outweighs the cost of a couple of draft picks.
The NFL draft is just the craziest.
One team could come into the draft with the highest expectations and potential just to completely ruin their night by picking busts and players at unneeded players. In a draft full of these uncertainties of who performed well and who did not, the only thing certain is that the Browns are poised to make their presence known in this upcoming draft.
