The Cavs coaching search continues to get hotter as rumors are swirling of their interest in different candidates. Today’s hot item; David Blatt.
Blatt has gone on record before saying that he would not leave Maccabi Tel Aviv unless he had a head coaching position in the NBA. But yesterday, Blatt notified Maccabi TA that he was leaving to pursue an NBA job. If you put two and two together, this news must mean that Blatt expects to receive an offer to become head coach of some NBA team.
The only team with a vacant head coaching position that is also linked to Blatt is the Cavs. Blatt is scheduled to interview next week, but according to Sam Amico (Fox Sports), talks between the team and Blatt are “heating up.”
Blatt’s team just won it’s league championship in Isreal, and he’s regarded as the hottest prospect out of all overseas coaches. In an interview on jpost.com, Blatt discussed why he chose now to leave Maccabi TA, and head to the NBA.
“I feel that this is the best time for me to leave. I was offered to stay but I decided to take this step,” said Blatt. “The truth is that I don’t know yet where I am going. There are several options, good options, and now that I have told Maccabi that I’m leaving I will intensify my talks with NBA teams. I just want to realize a dream and hold a significant role with an NBA team.”
Blatt is known for his offensive strategies, which should sit well with the likes of Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters. Maybe he can figure out how to get them to play together and bring out the best of their abilities together.
