The Cavaliers have made another trade as they continue to build assets for the future. Cleveland is now sending Rodney Hood out to the Portland Trailblazers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. In return for Hood, the Cavs will receive Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin and two future 2nd round picks. The two picks will be in 2021 and 2023.
Cleveland has been shopping players all season in exchange for expiring contracts and draft picks. In this trade, they’ve added both, since Stauskas and Baldwin’s contracts expire at the end of season. The Cavs have now turned Kyle Korver, George Hill, Rodney Hood and Sam Dekker into seven future draft
This won’t be the end of their moves before the February 7th trade deadline, either. Alec Burks and JR Smith are next on the trade block. Burks may be able to return a decent haul, as he’s played well since joining the Cavaliers. They will be lucky to receive a 2nd round pick for JR, if anything.
They Cavs have been the worst team in the NBA this year, but at least they’re making the right moves by adding draft picks and tanking. Anytime it’s a struggle to watch this team, just remember it’ll all be worth it when the Cavs land Zion Williamson.
