The Cavs host the Boston Celtics tomorrow night at the Q in their season opener and the team has prepared a “thank you” video for the ex-Cavalier Kyrie Irving. The video will honor and show appreciation for all of his accomplishments during his six seasons in Cleveland. The team has yet to announce at what point during the game they plan on playing the video.
As I’m sure most of you can relate, my personal feelings towards Kyrie Irving have changed drastically in the last few months. He went from being one the most beloved players in the history of the city before the trade to almost universally despised after his most recent comments. Immediately following the trade, I was extremely disappointed in the fact he wanted off the team. But, he did hit the game winning shot to bring the city its first championship in over 60 years. So, I was conflicted on how we as fans should great him on opening night.
Now, after his jab last week saying Cleveland isn’t a real sports city, I hope he gets boo’d into oblivion tomorrow night.
In fact, I’ll go one step further and say I wish the team didn’t have a thank you video prepared for him. Kyrie requested a trade, the organization fulfilled that request, but yet he still chooses to disrespect both the city and the team every chance he gets. He’s even had the audacity to come after the king himself! The Cavs would never have reached the level of success that they have without LeBron. It’s a shame that Kyrie couldn’t have put his ego aside to continue to dominate with the best player in the world. I don’t care if you went on First Take and claimed it wasn’t about your ego Kyrie, that’s what this was about.
I can’t wait till tomorrow when the Cavs will remind him how big of a mistake he made when he demanded to be traded. I don’t want just a Cavs win, I want the Celtics to be destroyed.
