Well, that was certainly a fun one for the Cleveland Cavaliers. After having more than a week off, the Wine & Gold came out at home and destroyed the Toronto Raptors 115-84.
The rust was apparent early. The Cavs got off to a slow start and found themselves down by a handful in the opening quarter. But by the end of the first 12 minutes, Cleveland had the game in control. The team took every shot they wanted inside of the paint. A team that has been sniping from the three-point line, showed they could dominate the low post too. Without center Jonas Valanciunas, Toronto couldn’t stop the Cavalier presence down low.
It was almost hard to watch for the Raptors. The Wine & Gold outscored them in every single quarter of the game and put the clamps down defensively after the first quarter. Cleveland finished the game shooting 55%, while Toronto shot just 42%.
Kyrie Irving had 27 points, while LeBron James added 24. Kevin Love also contributed 14 points on an efficient 4/8 from the field.
DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors with 18 points.
Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday at 8:30pm.
