Cavaliers PF Kevin Love Withdraws From Tokyo Summer Olympics

On July 16, 2021, PF Kevin Love announced that he will withdraw from Team USA’s basketball team in the Summer Olympics. Love had been in Vegas training and preparing for the Olympics for 10 days, then decided to call it quits.

Love has been dealing with a right calf injury since early on in the 2020-2021 NBA season. He is still trying to recover from this tragic injury and is looking to heal it rather than damage his calf even more.

Team USA will be looking a bit different now that Love will not be competing in the Olympics. Team USA’s staff will have to look to find a replacement player before the Olympics start. This creates more work for Team USA, but the opener does not start until July 25, so there is plenty of time to replace Love.

Love is looking to recover from his calf injury for the 2021-2022 NBA season. Although disappointed, he believes that not participating in the Olympics will give him more health for the upcoming NBA season.

Final thoughts: Kevin Love looks to be more focused on his NBA career rather than his Olympic career. Not participating in the Olympics should give Love a healthy bounce back for the next NBA season. Since Love will not be competing in the Tokyo Summer Olympics, who would you like to see replace him?
