The bullpen’s implosion wasn’t the only difficult thing to watch during Saturday’s 9-6 Tribe loss to the surging Detroit Tigers. Consistent catcher Yan Gomes took a Rajai Davis cleat to right lower right leg as Davis was trying to slide into home. Davis was called out as Carlos Santana’s throw beat him to the plate to record the force out.
After taking the cleat, Gomes stayed on his knees for a while. He was helped up, but couldn’t put any weight on his right side.
This injury comes at a tough time especially because the Tribe bullpen can’t seem to find it. Losing their go-to catcher is rough for the pitching staff as well as the loss of his offensive production as a great RIGHT HANDED bat in the lineup.
The catcher will be replaced by his backup Roberto Perez, whom has two hits and a home run this season. Additionally, the Indians may need some minor league help:
Let’s hope Yan Gomes quickly recovers from this injury. We want him behind and at the plate as soon as humanly possible.
